Na edição original da Bíblia de Genebra de 1560, os livros Apócrifos foram inseridos em uma seção própria e completamente separada, posicionada estrategicamente entre o final do Antigo Testamento e o início do Novo Testamento.

Ao contrário da tradição católica romana, baseada na Vulgata Latina, que intercalava esses escritos diretamente no corpo do Antigo Testamento, os reformadores de Genebra optaram por reuni-los em um bloco autônomo, sob o título explícito de Apocrypha.

Essa separação física e estrutural tinha o propósito de marcar, de forma visual e teológica, a distinção entre os dois grupos de textos. Enquanto os livros canônicos do Antigo e do Novo Testamento eram reconhecidos como a Palavra de Deus divinamente inspirada, a seção dos Apócrifos permanecia à parte, destinada a uma leitura de caráter histórico e educativo sobre o período intertestamentário, sem autoridade para fundamentar doutrinas ou dogmas da fé.
